A launching trolley is a great piece of kit for the dinghy sailor for a number of very simple reasons.

> No more carrying your dinghy from the water's edge.
> It is lighter weight and more manageable than a boat trailer. It is normally far easier to drag a small dinghy up a slipway on a lightweight launching trolley than it is to use its heavier road trailer.
> If you only need to leave your dinghy in the sailing club's trailer park, a trolley will save you the cost of buying a trailer.
> If you are sailing on the sea, a trolley will save having to immerse a more expensive trailer in salt water. Bearings, wheels and frames of trailers don't take kindly to abuse in the sea.

The key to the safe operation of a dinghy launching trolley lies in using a bit of common sense to carefully and securely position the boat on the trolley. Ensure sufficient slipway or soft ground extends beneath the water's surface to allow you to take the trolley into sufficiently deep water. The boat should float over the trolley, not need to be dragged onto it. Ensure that there are no rocks under your hull or the trolley. Rocks hole hulls and even slightly uneven ground makes life difficult for a launching trolley's small wheels. Secure your dinghy to the trolley, using at least a strong painter, then keep a firm grip and don't allow anyone to stand behind the trolley, as you bring it up the shore or slipway.
